about the Seeds of Tibet
Mission
Our mission is to preserve, sustain, and promote Tibetan language, culture, and heritage through community-based education, cultural programs, and intergenerational engagement for present and future generations.
Seeds of Tibet is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Who we are
The Tibetan community in New Jersey was once widely dispersed, with families living far apart and limited opportunities to gather and preserve their shared language, culture, and heritage. Recognizing the growing risk of cultural loss, a group of dedicated community members came together in 2007 to establish Seeds of Tibet. The organization was founded by just 12 families, united by a shared commitment to preserving, sustaining, and promoting Tibetan language, culture, and heritage for future generations.

Today, Seeds of Tibet serves a vibrant and growing community. More than 10,000 Tibetan and Himalayan individuals in New Jersey have participated in our programs, which support cultural continuity through language, arts, and tradition. Our programs draw participants from communities across New Jersey as well as New York State.
Vision
We envision a future where Tibetan language, culture, and heritage thrive in the hearts and daily lives of our people. Guided by the example of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, we are committed to preserving the spiritual and cultural foundations of Tibetan identity, honoring our ancestors, nurturing our children, and fostering hope, resilience, and collective care.
We dream of a thriving, connected community where elders pass down traditions and young people grow with pride in their heritage. Through shared learning and cultural expression, Seeds of Tibet nurtures belonging and ensures Tibetan culture continues to inspire future generations.
Values

Cultural Preservation
We honor Tibetan language, culture, and heritage as living traditions to be practiced, protected, and passed on to future generations.

Intergenerational Connection
We believe elders and youth strengthen one another, and that shared learning builds continuity, identity, and belonging.

Compassion & Nonviolence
Inspired by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, we are guided by compassion, respect, and peaceful coexistence in all that we do.

Community Responsibility
We believe preserving culture is a shared responsibility, strengthened through collaboration, service, and collective care.
